Chapter 43 - The Global Spill

Within minutes of the scheduled data drop, the digital landscape exploded. Across New York, London, Zurich, and Tokyo, smartphone notifications buzzed simultaneously on hundreds of millions of screens. Twitter and financial news feeds were flooded with the explosive hashtag `#DuvalScandal`, accompanied by leaked audio files, unredacted bank wire receipts, and high-definition photographs of Julian Duval meeting with indicted cartel operatives in private Alpine chalets.

The fallout was immediate and catastrophic for the Duval family empire. Within the first hour of trading, Duval Group stock plummeted by over forty-four percent, triggering emergency circuit breakers on the New York Stock Exchange. International banking partners hastily issued statements distancing themselves from Julian and his father, while luxury brands that had sponsored Dalia’s pageant run publicly terminated their contracts within minutes of the press release.

In a downtown Manhattan high-rise apartment, Dalia stood frozen in front of a massive wall-mounted television screen, watching a live broadcast of reporters swarming the lobby of the Duval Group headquarters. Her phone buzzed relentlessly on the glass coffee table—lawyers demanding retainers, brand managers canceling appearances, and anonymous trolls flooding her social media accounts with merciless comments.

"It's over," Dalia whispered, her hands shaking as she dropped her phone onto the cushions. She turned around to face Julian, who was pacing frantically near the floor-to-ceiling windows, a glass of half-empty scotch gripped tightly in his hand. "They didn't just expose our finances, Julian. They wiped us off the board. We don't even have enough liquidity left to pay our legal fees."

Julian stopped pacing, his face twisted in a mask of sheer disbelief and unadulterated fury. He threw his crystal glass against the brick accent wall, shattering it into a thousand glittering shards that rained down onto the hardwood floor.

"She did this," Julian growled, his voice breaking into a hoarse shout as he glared at the television screen where an anchor was now broadcasting footage of Khloe walking out of the Brentwood estate surrounded by federal investigators and private security. "She played dumb for months. She let us humiliate her on stage, let us take the sponsorships, let us walk all over her... while she was building a guillotine."

"And we walked right onto the blade," Dalia said bitterly, sinking onto the edge of the sofa with her head in her hands. "What do we do now, Julian? We have nowhere left to run."

Julian didn't answer immediately. He stared out the window at the glittering skyline of New York City, realizing too late that every single building, every bank, and every avenue he thought he controlled was standing on ground that ultimately belonged to the woman he had discarded.
