Chapter 11 - The Secret Behind the Fortune

Sienna stood motionless under the flickering fluorescent light of the parking garage. The hum of the exhaust fans sounded like an oncoming train.
"You really thought this was your trump card, didn't you?" she asked softly.
Christian's confident grin faltered. "What?"
Sienna took her hand out of her pocket. In it was not just a panic button, but her phone, displaying an active call with David Vance and Marcus Briggs.
"Christian," Sienna said, her voice dropping into a register of chilling, pitying certainty. "Did you really think I didn't know why Arthur Vance brought me into the executive tier five years ago?"
Christian froze.
"My father’s original equity was never buried by Arthur Vance," Sienna revealed, taking a slow step toward him. "It was placed into a blind corporate succession trust designed to mature on my thirty-fifth birthday. The only person who tried to steal it was your father, Richard Montgomery, before he drank himself to death fifteen years ago."
Christian stepped back, his back hitting the concrete pillar. "No... no, Mom said..."
"Your mother lied to you your entire life, Christian," Sienna said coldly. "She kept those fake ledger drafts to convince you that the Montgomerys were secret royalty who had been wronged by the world. That's why she felt entitled to thirty thousand dollars a month. That's why she felt entitled to my life. She raised you on a myth to justify her greed."
A sharp set of sirens echoed from the street above, bouncing down the concrete entrance ramp of the garage. Flashing red and blue lights illuminated the ceiling beams.
Christian looked around frantically, terror seizing his features. "Sienna! Please! Don't do this!"
"You tried to blackmail me with a fantasy, Christian," Sienna said as two police cruisers rounded the corner, tires screeching against the polished concrete floor. "Just like you built a fantasy life with Vanessa Wright using stolen funds."
Officers leaped from the vehicles, weapons drawn, flashlights blinding Christian.
"Christian Montgomery! Hands on your head! Face down on the pavement! Now!"
Christian dropped the yellow envelope. It hit the oil-stained concrete with a dull thud. He fell to his knees, sobbing openly, holding his hands behind his head as the officers pushed him roughly onto his stomach, the cold steel of the handcuffs clicking violently around his wrists.
Sienna bent down, picked up the envelope, and slid it into her leather briefcase without looking at him again.
As they dragged him toward the back of the cruiser, Christian screamed her name, begging for mercy, promising he would change, pleading for his mother, for his son, for anything.

Sienna closed her car door, turned the key, and backed out of the space without looking in the rearview mirror.
