Chapter 8 - Healing Old Wounds

That evening, the Philadelphia mansion felt entirely different. The dark cloud that had hung over the estate for nine months—and indeed, for twenty years—had finally lifted. There were no cameras, no fake society friends, and no forced smiles.
In the private family dining room, a warm, simple meal was served. Aunt Helen sat at the head of the table, laughing as Daniel recounted humorous prison stories that made light of a very dark chapter. Marco sat beside his brother, a genuine, relaxed smile gracing his face for the first time in memory.
Olivia stood near the doorway, preparing to excuse herself so the family could have their privacy, but Marco motioned for her to take a seat.
"You're not working tonight, Olivia," Marco said firmly, sliding a plate of food toward her chair. "You're a guest of this house now. Sit down."
Helen reached across the table and patted Olivia’s hand. "If it wasn't for you opening that side door in the pouring rain, sweetheart, none of this truth would have come to light. You saved this family."
"I just did what anyone would do," Olivia murmured, feeling a warm flush in her cheeks.

Daniel raised his water glass. "In this world, doing what anyone would do—showing basic human kindness when everyone else is slamming the door—is the rarest thing in existence. To new beginnings, and to the people who remind us who we are."
Glasses clinked softly in the quiet room. For Olivia, looking at her father's repair shop bills fully settled in her email inbox and knowing her family was safe, the world felt right again.
