Chapter 5 - Unraveling the Syndicate

Inside the estate's private study, the true depth of the betrayal came to light. Daniel laid out files, encrypted flash drives, and transcripts he had spent years smuggling out of prison through legal channels. Helen sat in a wingback chair nearby, sipping chamomile tea prepared by Olivia, watching her boys finally reunite after a long, dark winter.
"They used Celeste to get to our father," Daniel explained, pointing to a financial ledger dated twenty years back. "And when our father started asking questions about missing shipments, they eliminated him. They made it look like a botched warehouse raid."
Marco stared at the documents, his face hardening into stone. "And you took the fall for the corporate theft two years ago because they threatened to kill Helen if you didn't keep your mouth shut about the murder?"
"I had no choice," Daniel replied, running a hand through his dark hair. "If I fought the embezzlement charges in open court, they would have released the hitmen on Aunt Helen within the hour. I had to go inside where I was safe, gather the remaining loyalists, and wait for the right moment to strike back."
Olivia entered the room quietly, carrying a fresh tray of coffee. As she set it down on the mahogany desk, Marco looked up at her. For the first time, he didn't see just a housemaid; he saw someone who had shown genuine human decency to an elderly stranger standing in the pouring rain while twenty-eight wealthy guests looked away.
"Olivia," Marco said softly. "How much do you make at your father's repair shop?"
She blinked, startled. "Sir?"
"My brother tells me your father's shop has been targeted by commercial developers trying to force a buyout. How much is the bank demanding by this Friday?"
May you like
Olivia swallowed hard. "Fifteen thousand dollars. We don't have it."
Marco looked at Daniel, then back to Olivia. "Consider it paid in full. And effective immediately, you're no longer a housemaid. I'm appointing you as executive coordinator of the Bellini Foundation—starting with a salary that will ensure your family never has to worry again."
