Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

One year later.

The morning sun rose over Central Park, casting a warm, honey-gold glow over the penthouse terrace of the newly minted Vance-Evelyn Tower.

Inside the sleek, sunlit dining room, Isabella stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, sipping a cup of hot chamomile tea. She wore an elegant, tailored emerald-green silk dress that complemented her warm complexion and glowing hazel eyes. Around her neck, resting against her collarbone with breathtaking grace, was *The Empress Sapphire*.

In twelve months, Isabella had transformed the Evelyn Vance Foundation into the most efficient, beloved charitable organization in the nation. Under her compassionate leadership, over twelve thousand working-class cancer patients had had their medical debts wiped out entirely. Her sister had graduated top of her nursing class, debt-free, and was now managing a community pediatric wing funded by the trust.

A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind.

Ethan rested his chin against the crown of her head, breathing in the delicate scent of lavender that had become his favorite thing in the world.

"You're awake early," Ethan murmured, his voice husky with morning sleep.

Isabella turned in his embrace, wrapping her arms around his neck, looking up into the dark eyes that looked at her with nothing but unconditional adoration. "I was just watching the sunrise. And thinking about where we were a year ago tonight."

Ethan smiled, his thumb gently caressing her cheek. "A year ago tonight, I was sitting in a wheelchair, waiting to see who my real enemies were. I never expected to find my guardian angel."

A soft chime on the mahogany dining table signaled a news alert on Ethan's tablet.

Isabella glanced at it. The headline on the front page of the financial news read:

*CHAD MONTGOMERY SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR FRAUD AND WIRE CONSPIRACY; STERLING HOLDINGS LIQUIDATED.*

Brooke Sterling had faded completely into obscurity, working a low-level sales job in upstate New York, abandoned by the elite social circles she had once lived to impress. Her vanity and cruelty had cost her everything. Chad sat in a federal penitentiary in Pennsylvania, learning the hard lesson that an empire built on deceit will always collapse under its own weight.

Ethan didn't even bother reading the article. He tapped the screen off, completely indifferent to the fate of the people who had tried to destroy him. They were ghosts of a past that no longer mattered.

"Are you ready for tonight?" Ethan asked softly, pulling Isabella closer until their lips were mere inches apart.

Tonight was the annual St. Regis Metropolitan Gala. But this time, it was being hosted entirely by the Evelyn Vance Foundation, with Ethan Vance and Isabella Martinez standing side by side as the evening's guests of honor.

"I am," Isabella smiled, her eyes shining with joy. "As long as you're with me."

"Always," Ethan whispered.

He reached into his pocket and produced a small, velvet box—not the large heirloom case of the past, but a small, delicate ring box.

He opened it, revealing a flawless, brilliant-cut three-carat diamond set upon a platinum band inlaid with tiny Ceylon sapphires.

Ethan took a step back, and for the second time in his life, he dropped to one knee before her. But this time, it was not out of weakness or deception. It was the willing, joyful surrender of a king offering his heart to his queen.

"Isabella," Ethan said, his voice ringing with pure, unyielding devotion. "You loved me when you thought I had nothing. You stood by me when the world pushed me away. I don't want to walk this life without you. Will you marry me?"

Isabella’s breath caught in her throat. Fresh tears of overwhelming happiness filled her eyes as she looked down at the man who had given her not just wealth, but respect, purpose, and a fierce, protective love.

"Yes, Ethan," she cried, throwing her arms around him as he rose to catch her. "A thousand times, yes!"

Ethan lifted her off her feet, spinning her around in the bright morning sunlight, their laughter filling the high ceilings of the penthouse.

He slipped the ring onto her finger, sealing their destiny with a deep, passionate kiss beneath the endless New York sky.

The man who had once been pushed into the dark had not only reclaimed his kingdom—he had found the true light that would guide it forever. Kindness had triumphed over cruelty, love had conquered greed, and in the end, nobility had found its rightful home.
