Chapter 6 - Lily's Live Meltdown

By Tuesday evening, the story had metastasized.

In the age of social media, nothing stays contained in an email inbox. One of the bridesmaids—a girl named Chloe whom Lily had treated like dirt throughout the planning process—had taken the screenshots from my email blast and posted a detailed multi-part breakdown on TikTok under the hashtag *#TheRedVelvetBetrayal*.

Within twelve hours, the video had 4.2 million views.

Internet sleuths, with their terrifying efficiency, had tracked down Mark’s firm, Lily’s inactive design page, and the wedding registry. Mark’s LinkedIn had been scrubbed after thousands of comments asked how a man who couldn't keep his hands off his sister-in-law could be trusted with a retirement portfolio.

Lily, however, was incapable of remaining silent.

Sitting in her childhood bedroom—the very room she had mocked as "provincial and suffocating" just two weeks ago—she set her phone on her ring light and hit *Go Live* on Instagram.

She was dressed in a soft gray cashmere sweater, her eyes artfully smudged with mascara to look like she had been crying for days without rest. Over twenty thousand viewers flooded into the stream within sixty seconds, drawn by the viral TikTok drama.

"Hi everyone," Lily began, her voice quivering with well-rehearsed fragility. "I... I never thought I would have to make a video like this. But the cyberbullying and the lies have gone too far. My sister, Grace... she’s always had a very dark, controlling personality. Growing up, she resented me because our parents loved me unconditionally. She bought her way through life, and she tried to buy Mark, too."

She paused, dabbing a tissue at the corner of her dry eye.

"Mark was trapped in an emotionally abusive relationship with her. He came to me for comfort because I was the only person who saw how cold Grace really was. We fell in love. We didn't want to hurt her, but the heart wants what it wants. And yesterday... when I smashed that cake... it wasn't out of jealousy. It was a cry for help. I couldn't watch my sister force a good man into a loveless marriage."

The comments were rolling by at supersonic speed. Some were supportive, but many were skeptical.

Then, Lily went for the kill shot.

"Grace has completely cut me off from my home," she sobbed openly now, burying her face in her hands. "She canceled my college enrollment. She made me homeless overnight. She is using her wealth to destroy my life because she couldn't keep her man. If anything happens to me... I just want people to know the truth. Grace is an evil, calculating narcissist."

I watched the live stream from my laptop in my quiet apartment, eating a bowl of grapes.

Beside me on the sofa, Brenda was watching on her own phone, clutching a glass of white wine. "Can you believe the sheer audacity of this girl? She’s painting herself as a martyr!"

"Let her talk," I said calmly. "The deeper the grave, the harder it is to climb out."

I opened a separate browser tab. I had anticipated that Lily would try to spin the narrative. Narcissists always do. They cannot exist in a reality where they are the villain; they must rewrite the script until they are the tragic hero.

I had given David Miller permission to release the secondary drive.

Two minutes after Lily finished her live stream, David uploaded an unedited, eight-minute security video from the bridal suite hallway on the day of the wedding to a public Google Drive link, which was immediately picked up by the same TikTok creator who had posted the original expose.

The video didn't show tears. It didn't show a fragile artist crying for help.

It showed Lily, standing outside the bridal suite twenty minutes before the ceremony, leaning against Mark in his tuxedo.

The audio from the corridor camera was crystal clear:

*Lily: “Once the ceremony is done, make sure you don’t touch her tonight. Tell her you’re too drunk.”*

*Mark: “Lily, stop. If she gets suspicious before we sign the deed next week, we’re screwed.”*

*Lily (laughing cruelly): “She’s an idiot, Mark. Look at her in that dress. She looks like a glorified secretary. When I take your arm at the reception, I’m going to make sure everyone sees who really owns you.”*

*Mark: “Just don't do anything crazy. Let her pay for the honeymoon first.”*

*Lily: “I’ll do whatever I want. Grace does what she’s told.”*

The internet’s response was swift, brutal, and unanimous.

Within thirty minutes, Lily’s comment section was a graveyard of condemnation. The brands she had been begging for micro-influencer sponsorships publicly revoked their affiliations. The private art school released an official statement on Twitter: *“In light of recent public disclosures regarding student conduct and ethics violations, the individual in question is no longer enrolled at our institution.”*

Brenda looked up from her phone, her eyes wide. "Grace... they’re tearing her apart."

May you like

"No," I replied, shutting my laptop. "She tore herself apart. I just turned on the lights."
