Chapter 10 - Coming Home

Six months later.

The Amalfi Coast of southern Italy was a masterpiece of turquoise water, jagged limestone cliffs, and terraced groves of golden lemons glowing under a warm Mediterranean sun.

High on the cliffside of Positano stood Villa Moretti.

The historic estate was a marvel of architectural restoration. Ancient stone arches met sweeping glass terraces, and cascading purple bougainvillea spilled over terracotta balustrades that dropped straight into the shimmering sea below.

On the grand stone terrace overlooking the water, thirty close friends, former associates, and family members sat in elegant white linen chairs.

There were no bodyguards with submachine guns. There were no hidden snipers on the terracotta rooftops. There was only the gentle strumming of an acoustic guitar, the scent of sea salt and blooming jasmine, and the sound of waves crashing rhythmically against the rocks below.

Dominic Moretti stood beneath an archway woven with white roses and olive branches.

He wore an impeccably tailored navy linen suit, crisp and open-collared, devoid of weapons or bulletproof vests. The gray at his temples caught the afternoon sun, making him look distinguished, powerful, and utterly at peace. His left shoulder moved with ease, the physical scars of the past fully healed, serving only as a quiet reminder of the grace he had been granted.

Beside him stood Marco, dressed in a sharp beige suit, smiling broadly with a glass of sparkling water in his hand, acting as the best man.

The acoustic guitar shifted into a slow, breathtaking melody—the vintage French lullaby from the antique music box.

Every guest turned toward the grand double doors of the villa.

Dominic’s breath caught in his throat.

Walking down the stone aisle, scattering pale pink rose petals from a woven wicker basket, was Mia.

She wore a delicate white lace dress with a crown of baby’s breath resting in her dark, bouncing curls. She was giggling with pure delight, her small sandals clicking happily against the flagstones, her brown eyes dancing with sunlight.

Beside her, walking with rigid, dignified precision, was Leo.

The five-year-old was dressed in a miniature replica of Dominic’s navy linen suit, complete with a tiny silk pocket square. In his hands, resting on a velvet pillow, were two platinum wedding bands. His chin was held high, his serious face breaking into a proud, bright grin the moment his eyes met Dominic’s.

And behind them walked Natalie.

Dominic felt his vision blur with overwhelming emotion.

Natalie was an absolute vision of grace and radiant beauty. She wore an ethereal, off-the-shoulder gown of ivory silk that draped over her figure like water, catching the Mediterranean breeze. Her dark hair was swept into an elegant, soft chignon, framing cheekbones that were flushed with health, warmth, and absolute joy.

She held a bouquet of white peonies and fresh olive leaves, but her eyes never once left Dominic’s face.

She walked toward him not as a frightened girl, and not as a wounded victim of his past—she walked toward him as his equal. His partner. The architect who had rebuilt his shattered life from the ground up.

When she reached the archway, Dominic stepped forward, taking both of her hands in his. Her skin was warm, vibrant, and steady.

"You look breathtaking, Mrs. Moretti," Dominic whispered, his voice trembling with profound reverence.

"You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Moretti," Natalie replied, her hazel eyes shining with tears of pure, unadulterated happiness.

The local Italian priest smiled, raising his hands over them, delivering the blessing in soft, lyrical Italian that seemed to dance on the ocean breeze.

When it came time for the vows, Dominic didn't read from a prepared script. He looked straight into Natalie’s eyes, holding her hands over his heart.

"Five years ago, I proved I was unworthy of your love," Dominic said, his deep voice carrying clearly over the sound of the sea. "I let fear, suspicion, and pride steal the greatest treasure God ever gave me. But you showed me what true strength looks like. You raised our children with courage, grace, and an unbreakable spirit."

He leaned in, his thumb gently caressing her cheek.

"I surrender my life, my heart, and my honor into your hands, Natalie. I vow to protect you, to cherish you, and to spend every remaining breath of my life proving that our love was worth fighting for. You are my home. And I will never leave you again."

Tears spilled over Natalie’s lashes, bright and beautiful in the sun.

"Dominic," she whispered, her voice clear and strong. "Five years ago, I thought my heart was buried forever. But you fought through the dark to find us. You proved that a man can change—that love is not about control, but about sacrifice. I choose you today, tomorrow, and for all the days that follow. You are my husband, the father of my children, and the keeper of my soul."

Leo stepped forward, holding up the velvet pillow.

Dominic took the platinum band, sliding it onto Natalie’s finger, where it gleamed alongside her grandmother’s restored emerald ring. Natalie took the heavier band, sliding it firmly onto Dominic’s finger, sealing the bond for eternity.

"By the power vested in me," the priest declared with a joyful smile, "I pronounce you husband and wife. Dominic, you may kiss your bride."

Dominic didn't hesitate.

He wrapped his strong arms around Natalie’s waist, lifting her slightly off her feet, and brought his lips down onto hers in a passionate, deep, and desperate kiss that poured five years of longing, redemption, and absolute devotion into her soul.

The guests erupted into wild cheers and applause.

Marco whistled loudly, raising his glass high into the air.

From below, two small pairs of arms wrapped tightly around Dominic and Natalie’s legs.

Dominic broke the kiss, laughing softly against Natalie’s lips, looking down.

Mia had wrapped her arms around Dominic’s right knee, looking up with a radiant grin, while Leo had his arms securely around Natalie’s waist, looking up at his father with pure, unreserved admiration.

Dominic bent down, scooping Mia into his right arm and lifting Leo into his left, resting them securely against his chest. Natalie pressed her hip against his side, wrapping her arm around Dominic’s waist, leaning her head against his shoulder.

Together, the four of them turned toward the edge of the terrace.

The Mediterranean Sea stretched out endlessly before them, vast, deep, and brilliant blue under the midday sun. The lemon trees rustled in the warm wind, filling the air with the sweet, clean scent of new beginnings.

The shadows of the past had vanished.
